hils: (Shakespeare by me)

This was from my first wander into Stratford on Monday evening. This is The Falstaff Experience, which is the place I mentioned that was like a cheap version of The York Dungeon

I love the blending of old buildings and new shops

The beginning of my day as a tourist. This is the house Shakespeare was born in. Sadly, because these buildings are so old you're not allowed to take photos inside any of them. It was cool though!

The side of the house

This is the back of Hall's Croft, which is where Shakespeare's daughter and her husband lived. He was a doctor so there was lots of interesting stuff about medicinal practises of Shakespeare's day inside.

A bit closer

Anne Hathaway's Cottage. The guide explained at great lengths that it was a farmhouse, not a cottage. This is where Shakespeare's wife was born and grew up.

Mary Arden's farm. This is the farm Shakespeare's mother grew up on

They had birds of prey and this owl was particularly vocal while I was there

Lovely garden

I think this was the part Mary Arden lived in. There was a big group of schoolkids there when I was visiting so I didn't get the chance to talk to any of the guides

The Bard.

I'll post the rest tomorrow :)

Geez. I can reach Seattle after a 4.5 hour drive, but otherwise all we have is, "And here's where the serial rapist Kevin Coe violated his sixth victim..." or "This is the home of Robert L. Yates, convicted serial killer. In the backyard flower garden is where he buried one of his prostitute victims..."

All of our history is recent, and really really uncool.

/sour grapes.

Thanks for these shots, Hils!
