First batch of my Hallowhedon panel pics. I wish I'd realised sooner that my camera actually took better photos with the flash off. Ah well, I know for Collectormania

[livejournal.com profile] drusplace and I have taken it upon ourselves to enlighten all those who are new to the wonder of James Marsters. She posted a picspam yesterday as well as some interesting JM factoids.

I, sadly, don't have any interesting factoids but I do have lots of pics. These are all special to me as they're all pics that I took during my various meetings with James over the years.

I must apologise for the quality of the early pics. They were before I got a digital camera. In fact the main reason I bought my first digital camera was to take better pics of James. LOL

JM 2003-2008 )

Hope you enjoyed it. I certainly had fun going through all my old pics

Ok, really, you guys HAVE to watch this panel!

The stuff that isn't hilarious is really interesting.

Someone flat out asks Michael if the crappy plots of Smallville were why he left. He says no.

So, here's the whole thing (embedded because I'm nice) but behind a cut of course

Squee doesn't begin to cover these two together )

I don't actually have a lot to report about this one because it was fairly uneventful - but I have photos which is all you guys want anyway *g*

We got up early on Saturday because it was James day and I was expecting a huge queue. Helen and I met up with [livejournal.com profile] tasabian and we walked over to the con together. I was amused and slightly baffled to find that the small group of people we walked past while we were looking for the queue for James turned out to BE the queue for James. We were only an hour early and I was expecting masses of people. When I got my virtual ticket for James's autograph I was number 30 which is the lowest I've ever been for anyone at one of these events.

Afterwards we went and had some breakfast and I wandered around the stalls and saw this wondeful Lex collage that I just HAD to have. How sad is it that I am building up a collection of things for when I meet Michael? I've put my Lex t-shirt aside to wear and now I'm putting this aside for him to sign

The collage )

I also saw Boromir's sword complete with Bean autograph which made me all nostalgic for my days in the LotR fandom

The sword )

I then bought a lovely photo of James and John together which I thought would be perfect for them both to sign.

The pic with signatures )

Sadly the same thing happened with John as with Brandon Routh last year and he stopped doing personalisations just before I got to see him. If Michael comes in September I will be there insanely early just in case. LOL!

So, since our numbers were so low we went to see James not long after he arrived. He spent ages hovering over the picture and I thought he was trying to decide where to sign it. 'Are you looking for some free space?' I asked him as a joke. 'No', he replied. 'There's just so much cool stuff I like to look at it all' Well, that told me. LOL!

He was great though. Because I paid for Helen's autograph as a birthday present James thought both items were hers, and when I said the other one was mine he apologised for his bad manners and shook my hand. Aparently as I was leaving he said something like 'cool necklace' but I didn't hear him. Damn.

Afterwards [livejournal.com profile] tasabian told us what James had said about Tom and we all gushed.

After that we had some lunch went to the library to play online before we went for our photo shoot with James. I wound up with two photos but I honestly can't see anything wrong with the first one. Well, I'm not going to complain

Which one is the bad one? )

The others headed back to the hotel for a rest and I met [livejournal.com profile] dj_intheuk and we wandered around the stalls for a bit. I talked her into buying Superman: True Brit, because it is hilarious *g*

By the time we were done the photos of James were back and then I went back to the hotel and crashed for a bit until Doctor Who came on.

After Doctor Who we met up with [livejournal.com profile] complicat, who it transpired was in the room opposite us, and [livejournal.com profile] tasabian and we went out for dinner. Pizza Hut. Yum!

[livejournal.com profile] supernaturalhel caught up with some of Lost on my laptop and then it was bedtime.

Oh, and we saw Iron Man on Friday. Best comic book movie EVER! Even better than Batman Begins. Robert Downey Jnr IS Tony Stark. I can't remember the last time I saw more perfect casting in a role.

If you haven't see it go and see it. Now.

My Brandon Routh photo wasn't back from the developers last night so Showemasters are having to mail it to me. I hope they don't take too long :-S

Here's the rest of the pics. They're quite big so this probably isn't a dialup friendly post

Why do I always insist on wearing shoes that boost my height to these events? I always wind up crippled by the end of the day from all the queueing

Uh...hello! I'm back from Collectormania as you probably guessed, although I have to pop back in an hour to pick up my James and Brandon photos and have some dinner.

It's been a good day. I made a friend walking to the con this morning and we wandered around together trying to find where we should be queueing to get in. This place has SO many entrances it's unreal. It all worked out ok in the end and good thing I got there eary as I had nice low autograph numbers from everyone I wanted to see. 57 for Tony, 182 for James and 297 for Brandon

The lady I met on the way in kindly held my place in the Brandon autograph ticket queue while I nipped off to get Tony's

After I'd got all my tickets I went and had some breakfast and by the time I was done it was time to meet Tony. He was lovely. Really friendly and he actually remembered that he was late to Toronto Trek all those years ago which I had totally forgotten about.

Since there was no one behind me in the queue I asked if he would mind me taking a photo of us and he said that was fine. I wound up taking two by mistake. LOL

Piccies )

Next it was time to meet James and I managed to sneak a photo of Charisma while I was in the queue.

I swear James is some sort of fae creature. I haven't seen him in person since 2004 but I've seen him in Smallville and Cool Money where I have to say he didn't do a lot for me.

All he did today was look at me today and I turned into a wibbling pile of speechless goo. I don't know how he does it. There's something about his eyes. Guh.

He was charming and polite as he always is. He shook my hand, made eye contact and said hello. I just wibbled. On the other hand I didn't argue with him so go me! LOL.

Piccies )

Incidentally, that print James is signing there, they had a very similar one of Lex which I wanted but didn't buy because I need to save my pennies and don't have anywhere to put it anyway

Anways, after meeting James it was time for my photo with Tony. Not sure why but I wound up with two. I remember the phtotographer taking a second shot but I just assumed it was because I'd blinked or something on the first one but they're both fine.

Pretty much straight after that it was time for my James photo. As I said, I need to go pick these up in a few minutes but I'm intrigued as to how they turned out. I went and stood next to James and again he was all sweet and made me wibble. The photographer was about to take the shot when James suddenly decided to change his position. I don't know what he did but the photographer said 'aww' and took a lengthways shot of us before doing the regular one. Can't wait to see what they look like. I was too wibbly to really focus on what was going on. LOL

Next it was time to meet Brandon and I managed to sneak a photo of Grace Park while I was queueing. Am slightly disappointed to say that just as I arrived the organisers decided things were taking too long and told Brandon to stop personalising the autographs. He was charming enough and VERY pretty. I mean seriously. The kind of pretty that takes your breath away. As I got to him he decided his chair wasn't set up properly and started bouncing up and down on it trying to make it work. LOL. I wish I'd been able to take a photo, or even better some video *snickers*

Piccies )

And finally, to end the day, I had to queue for an hour to get my photo taken with Brandon. I seriously think Showmasters misjudged how popular he was going to be. On their website they were saying they anticipated him to have an open queue by late afternoon. As it was he was only up to ticket 400 when I left. He was lovely though, taking the time to shake everyone's hands (and did I mention how pretty he is?)

I met [livejournal.com profile] eleclya_m while I was queueing and I must have come across as a total moron because she had to say who she was 3 times before I realised. D'oh!

Which brings me back to my hotel with sore feet. LOL.

And to finish some random pics of my hotel room and stuff at the con

Piccies )

Right, my wifi will most likely have run out by the time I've eaten and stuff so I shall see you all tomorrow. I'll scan my autographs and official photos when I get home

(That's gratuitous James post)

Right, it's finally done. Here's my gig report with a selection of non-James pics to go with it.

Before we went to see the gig tonight Jacqui and I had pretty much decided that this would be the last time either of us went to see James. Neither of us are heavily involved in the Buffy fandom any more and it just felt like we didn't have anything in common with the people that would be going

However, by the end of the gig we have both ENTIRELY changed our minds about this. This one was without a doubt the best performance I've seen from James yet. The music has moved away from rock and more towards blues and folk, which suits James's voice much better. He admitted this during the gig, stating that whilst he thinks Charlie is an excellent song writer, he tended to write songs which were a little high for James's vocal range.

The gig itself combined new songs such a Civilised Man with older songs which he wrote for Ghost of the Robot such as Angel and Dangerous. There was also an interesting song about the history of blues music which James jokingly suggested would get him sent to Guantanamo if he played it in the US. On a lighter note was the song Katie, about a girl James met when she was working in the props department of Buffy. James had a bit of a thing for her but they never moved beyond friendship. He later found out she was gay but wrote the song about her before he found this out. He was laughing about it while he played it

The only thing which ruined the atmosphere for me was the usualy annoying people shouting for James to take his shirt off. He always takes this in good humour and handles it well but it did make me embarassed to be a fan

But that aside it was an excellent gig and I look forward to hopefully seeing him again soon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES MARSTERS

*raises a glass to the man that brought me to all my fellow Buffy fans*

James, without you I honestly have NO idea what I'd be doing these days. In honor of the occasion, here's a pic of my happiest memory

The day my dreams came true )

Who knows when we'll meet again, if ever, so good luck with all that you do in the future and I'm looking forward to seeing MacBeth
hils: (Restraining)
There's a lot of talk going on about James at Moonlight Rising. Must confess I haven't actually sat down and read any of it, mostly because con reports can generally be split into 'James is great' or 'James was crap'. I realised I'm very broadly generalising here and I don't mean anything unkind by it. I just tend to find that something is lost if you weren't actually there.

Of course I am as guilty as the next person for posting photos and reports, but these are mainly for myself as a reminder and then if anyone else wants to read them then that's just a bonus

Anyway, after reading a post by [livejournal.com profile] hobbituk and chatting to a few people online I thought I'd share my current opinion on James which is basically how I've felt since Tampa last year.

James Marsters is merely a human being.

Yes, I realise some of you may be shocked by this revelation but it's true. He's not on this earth to be some god-like figure that we worship. He's a man doing his job. I'm not saying I don't enjoy meeting him, I do. I find what he has to say quite interesting, even if I don't always agree with him. He knows how to play a crowd when he's performing, he knows how to make each meeting with him seem special. In short he's good at his job.

I find it a little sad that so many people place all these expectations on him because of what he does for a living. I love Spike, I don't deny it, but James isn't Spike. He's a completely different person with faults and blemishes just like the rest of us. He likes to date girls half his age? So what? He won't be the first attractive man to do it and I'm sure he won't be the last. He has a bad temper? Who doesn't?

Point is, while I find James an interesting person I am not in the least bit attracted to him. He's old enough to be my dad for a start. I'd love to sit down and have a really long conversation with him but that's about it

Hmm...I' sure there was a point to this rant when I started typing but I can't for the life of me rememeber what it was now *shrug*

I'll just stop here then

Everyone remember the James Marsters Lolly Porn that was floating about a month or so ago? Well, at [livejournal.com profile] marsters_daily I've just started Something New

After many hours of toil I've managed to get all my photos posted....at least I think they're all there. Given how tired I am it's entirely possible I may have missed one or two. If you spot any little red X boxes, let me know and I'll fix it in the morning

So, without further ado, I present
