I wonder if they had the Season finale for S6 planned out when they wrote Tabula Rasa

Spike: I'm a vampire with a soul.
Buffy: A vampire with a soul? Oh my god how lame is that?

I wonder what the writers were thinking? Just a dig at Angel or something a bit more?

Well, the fic is making progress. Spike and Xander have had their first kiss. It's only a matter of time before the crazy, naked sex starts. This is so much fun to write, I can't believe I never did it before. If course, I'm not sure if it's any good or not. We'll have to wait and see I guess...
